Running Your Business On The Go!
Im often asked if its possible to launch a Homeowner Referral Network (HRN) business while juggling a day job and/or other family obligations? With a little discipline and good time management skills, the answer is yes. Heres why: 1. 90% of your work can be done by phone. Contractor screening and follow up, homeowner calls and networking can all be handled by phone and oftentimesafter normal work hours. Keep in mind that most contractors are out in the field during the day so the best time to reach them may be in the early morning or after 5pm when theyve returned from a job. And, if you need to be away from your office for an extended period of time, your calls can be forwarded to a cell phone.
2. HRNMS© (Homeowner Referral Network Management Software) is web-based. That means that you can work at any time of day, from any location. HRNMS© is contact management software that organizes all of your homeowner, contractor and job order information and, it can be linked to your website so that job requests submitted on the web are automatically downloaded.
3. Most of the jobs referred by an HRN are projects, not emergencies. That means that you dont need to respond to calls 24 hours/day. You can leave a message on your business answering machine notifying clients that calls will be returned during certain hours. The key is to respond promptly and efficiently (and refer good contractors, of course!) so that you develop consumer trust and a reputation for professionalism.
4. Your website can work for you 24 hours/day. With a little strategic web marketing and promotion, a website is an invaluable tool for any business owner, especially if youre only able to devote limited work hours to your new business. You can promote your business, announce new services and keep in touch with clients whether youre in or out of the office.
And, if youre still concerned about not having enough time to devote to your new business, consider launching with a partner. Look for someone who has not only complimentary skills to yours but who will be available to take care of your business when youre not able to be in the office. Regards,
